Dance Audition Video FAQ
Q. HOW LONG SHOULD MY DANCE AUDITION/ ONLINE VIDEO / SHOWREEL BE AND WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED?
A. Most schools will offer guidelines about the length of Dance Audition DVD / Online Video / Showreel and also what to include for their audition processes. But if no information is available I recommend approximately 10 - 15 minutes consisting of some barre, centre and possibly a solo for schools. For company Dance Audition Online Video / Showreel I would recommend some centre practice and a variation (or two) to highlight strengths and qualities.
Q. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY DANCE AUDITION ONLINE VIDEO / SHOWREEL SHOOT?
A. Dress should be clean, presentable and appropriate for the style of dance. When choosing attire pick a solid color that you feel like represents you best. Tutus for solos may be worn where appropriate. Items of clothing such as longer skirts, baggy clothing, leg-warmers etc should be avoided as they may give the appearance of attempting to hide or disguise physique, even if not intentional.
My skill as a Professional Dance Photographer and knowledge of aesthetics, technique and qualities required for dance will ensure that all photographs taken during your shoot will show you at your very best.
Q. HOW MUCH MAKE-UP SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY DANCE AUDITION ONLINE VIDEO / SHOWREEL SHOOT?
A. Make-up should be light, fresh and a natural everyday make-up. Too heavy a foundation or eye make-up is not recommended and is unnecessary for Audition DVD / Online Video / Showreel.
Q. DO I HAVE TO CHOREOGRAPH EXERCISES AND SUPPLY THE MUSIC?
A. No. I will choreograph exercises and provide pre-recorded piano music for all class exercises if necessary. Where possible I will also locate and supply music for solos and other repertoire (if enough information is provided)
However some input from yourself on preferences, strengths & also weaknesses is welcomed & encouraged, as this will help me tailor exercises, solos and rep to best suit you. If you have any video of you dancing on social media or other video please include this.
Q. CAN YOU EDIT DIFFERENT SCENES FROM DIFFERENT TAKES SO THAT MY SOLO APPEARS PERFECT?
A. No. It is far more preferable to film a single, uninterrupted take of your each combination, variation, and solo containing a few minor errors, than to submit a patchwork edit that gives the impression to future teachers/employers that you are unable to complete these skills.
Q. I THOUGHT THAT MORE FOOTAGE WAS FILMED AT MY DANCE AUDITION ONLINE VIDEO / SHOWREEL SHOOT? CAN I HAVE ALL THE FOOTAGE PLEASE?
A. No. My experience as former dancer and award winning teacher it is my responsibility to recognize and only provide you with the best footage of each exercise, variation, solo etc from your Dance Audition / Online Video / Showreel Shoot.
Q. HOW DO I VIEW MY ONLINE VIDEO?
A. I will email you a web address link (URL) that you can view your online video at. From there you will download your video from this Google Drive and should upload it to your own Youtube, Website, or Vimeo account.
Q. WILL MY ONLINE VIDEO BE ON YOUR YOUTUBE?
A. No. I will only upload your Online Video to your google drive and not to any social media sites or Youtube etc.
Q. WHO WILL BE ABLE TO SEE MY ONLINE VIDEO?
A. Only those that know the web address link (URL) will be able to view your Online Video.
Q. HOW LONG WILL MY ONLINE VIDEO BE ONLINE?
A. Online Videos will be available to view download for approximately 3 months before being removed.
Q. WHO ELSE WILL KNOW THAT I HAVE HAD AN AUDITION ONLINE VIDEO / SHOWREEL SHOOT WITH YOU?
A. I consider all Photoshoots & Commissions as private and confidential contracts between the client and myself, and will therefore not disclose the identity or details of my clients to anyone else.
Q. I REQUIRE BOTH DANCE AUDITION PHOTOS AND A DANCE AUDITION ONLINE VIDEO / SHOWREEL. CAN YOU DO BOTH IN ONE SHOOT?
A. Yes. It is possible to shoot both stills and video in the same photoshoot but it will obviously take longer and require some planning. Please contact me with your requirements and we can discuss further.
